FAQ

GENERAL FAQ

How many meals do the students receive each day?

Three balanced, nutritious meals are served on all days when there are classes. In addition, the dorms are equipped with refrigerators so the students can store their own food.

What kind of health care does Midreshet Yeud use?

All of our students are required to have medical insurance, which allows students to visit private doctors and covers emergency hospitalization [the cost is approx 1$ per day, not included in tuition]. Dental, optical, psychological, psychiatric and ongoing treatment costs are not covered. Students who are taking medication for a chronic condition are asked to bring a sufficient supply, as mailing or Fed-Exing medications is often prohibited by law.

How do the students do laundry?

We have a washing machine and dryer in the dormitory. In order to prevent lost articles, clothing should be labeled with an indelible laundry marker.

What kind of books will the students need?

Students are encouraged to bring with them basic sefarim such as: Siddur, Machzorim, Tanach and Selichot, as well as the Five Chumashim with Rashi. At various points in the year, a local sefarim distributor conducts a sefarim sale in the Midreshet Yeud building.

What is the dress code?

Make sure that all clothes that you bring conform to our dress code. Our dress code is simple and clear, and all students must adhere to it throughout the year, on or off campus: skirts that cover the knees even while seated; shirts with sleeves to the elbows and which meet the top of the skirt at all times, and appropriate necklines.

Students are to dress appropriately at all times, including tiyulim and when outside of the Midrasha. The dress code will be enforced.

Where do the students spend the Yamim Noraim?

Our students are off for Rosh Hashanah. We are happy to help any students who have no family or friends to go to for chag and require assistance in finding a host family.

Yom Kippur is spent in Ramot's local shuls, where our students participate in inspirational tefillot.

What do students do on Sukkot, Chanuka and Pesach?

Students are invited to stay in the dorms throughout the school year, as long as there is staff supervision. We provide staff supervision as long as 5 girls stay in the dorm. We do not provide meals or programs during break. Sukkot is a 2-week break, Chanuka – 5 days, and Pesach is approx 3 weeks.

What do students do when there is no Shabbat program?

Students generally spend their free Shabbatot in communities throughout Israel. Students are also always welcome at the homes of our faculty/madrichot. We also recommend using www.anywhereinisrael.com !

If they choose to spend their off Shabbatot in the dorm, our Em Bayit often hosts them for meals. All of our students have “adopted” families in the neighborhood who can also host them for Shabbat meals. There are also hot plates for the girls to warm food on [if they order in their own food].

When can parents come to visit?

We are very happy that parents visit their daughters in Israel. It sends a message to them that we are all involved in their growth. We encourage parents to experience our "Be a Yeud Student for a Day" program, and we take special pleasure in helping parents arrange their visits to Israel. Mothers and sisters [and sometimes fathers] are invited to sit in on shiurim too.
